Every aquatic system accumulates sediment, organic matter, dead vegetation, and debris. The right response depends on the system's size, depth, construction, biological activity, surrounding landscape, and intended use.
We begin with the least disruptive practical approach and only recommend more intensive work when the condition of the system makes it necessary.
Deep Cleaning & Material Removal
Deep cleaning addresses accumulated material that can no longer be controlled through routine maintenance alone. Each method has a different level of disruption, so the condition of the ecosystem must be considered before work begins.
Hydraulic Dredging
Hydraulic dredging removes accumulated muck, sludge, invasive vegetation, and excess nutrients while much of the water remains in place. It can still disturb habitat and aquatic life, but when site conditions allow, it is generally far less disruptive than mechanical excavation or a complete drain and refill.
Mechanical Dredging
Mechanical dredging uses excavation equipment to remove heavy sediment, dense vegetation, or material that cannot be removed effectively by other methods. It can be highly disruptive to bottom habitat and the established ecosystem, so access, disposal, wildlife, shoreline conditions, and less invasive alternatives should be evaluated first.
Complete Drain & Refill
Draining and refilling is the most disruptive option and should be treated as an absolute last resort. Removing the water exposes aquatic life, interrupts biological filtration, alters temperature and water chemistry, and can eliminate much of the established ecosystem. It should be avoided whenever a safer, workable alternative exists.
Nuisance Plant Removal
Overgrown or invasive aquatic vegetation can restrict circulation, interfere with equipment, reduce usable water area, and add organic material as it dies back. Removal is selected according to the plant, water body, access, and surrounding environment.
Routine Maintenance
Consistent care limits buildup, protects equipment, and helps prevent small concerns from becoming expensive or disruptive problems.
Surface Skimming
Leaves, pollen, grass, flowers, and windblown material are removed before they sink and contribute to muck, nutrient accumulation, and declining water quality.
Baskets, Screens & Filters
Skimmer baskets, pump baskets, screens, and accessible filtration components are cleared to maintain water movement and reduce unnecessary strain on equipment.
Dead Vegetation & Debris
Dead leaves, spent flowers, trimmings, and decaying vegetation are removed to reduce nutrient release, odor, and unnecessary oxygen demand.

Our in-depth on-site water-quality visit combines detailed system observations with field measurements selected for the conditions present. When a concern requires deeper investigation, samples may be submitted for advanced laboratory analysis. Overflow & Water-Level Concerns
Overflowing, unexpected water loss, blocked discharge areas, and unusual level changes may involve runoff, obstructions, evaporation, equipment operation, or conditions outside the water feature.
Fish Distress
Fish gathering near the surface, gasping, becoming inactive, or dying unexpectedly may indicate low dissolved oxygen, temperature stress, water-quality changes, disease, or another environmental problem.
Noxious Odors
Persistent sewage-like, sulfurous, earthy, or decaying odors may be associated with trapped gases such as methane or hydrogen sulfide, anaerobic conditions, excessive organic loading, or potentially harmful bacterial activity. Because very different problems can present with similar odors, the source and level of concern require professional evaluation.
Sudden Loss of Clarity
A rapid change may be associated with algae, suspended sediment, runoff, disturbed bottom material, equipment problems, excess nutrients, or changing biological conditions.
